Operations and Strategy Lead, libp2p Project
PL Job Board
About the libp2p Project
The libp2p Project is an open-source (MIT/Apache licensed) decentralized networking stack that provides the essential tools to build peer-to-peer applications. Our robust modules include peer discovery, content routing, publish/subscribe messaging, a distributed hash table (DHT) for scalable record storage, advanced cryptography for secure connections, stream multiplexing, and more. With implementations in Go, JS, Rust, Java, Python, C++, Lua, and NIM, libp2p is a versatile and widely accessible networking solution for developers worldwide.
Join Us
We're on a mission to lay the foundation for an industry-standard peer-to-peer networking framework that will power the emerging decentralized Internet. We're seeking an extraordinary Operations and Strategy Lead to help manage operations and execution for the core libp2p OIF cell & project fundraising. You'll work closely with libp2p pioneers like Juan Benet and Raul Kripalani, playing a pivotal role in stewarding community resources and growth.
The Role
As the Operations & Strategy Lead, you will:
- Collaborate & Accelerate: Work across libp2p project teams and stakeholders to accelerate libp2p development, increasing the number of users and promoting ecosystem growth.
- Evangelize: Champion the libp2p product vision, identifying opportunities and directing resources to leverage them.
- Grow Funding: Identify and grow funding sources for the libp2p mission, overseeing budgets responsibly.
- Optimize Operations: Manage core cell operations, grant approvals, and proactive planning systems.
- Strategize: Own and drive technical, product, and ecosystem strategies, establishing a culture of excellence and proactivity.
- Manage: Work across libp2p teams to keep contributors aligned, accountable, and productive.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategy and Financial Management
- Develop and implement strategic plans for technical, product, and ecosystem priorities.
- Establish a proactive and excellence-driven culture across the libp2p project.
- Manage budgets and funding sources to support libp2p's growth and sustainability.
- Oversee core cell operations, grant approvals, and planning systems.
- Contributor Recruiting and Growth
- Identify and recruit optimal candidates to scale the contributor base.
- Evaluate potential contributors for fit and propose grants to engage them.
- Supervise and support existing contributors, recommending actions as necessary.
- Onboard new core cell contributors to handle ongoing operations and strategy.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Ecosystem Growth
- Manage relationships with adopters, partners, stakeholders, and the community.
- Engage with potential adopters to scope out requirements and drive collaboration.
- Foster a transparent open-source community, maintaining the roadmap and delivery workflows.
- Consult with adopters to evaluate framework requirements, product features, and support needs.
- Troubleshoot adopter issues and prioritize project resources to resolve them.
Requirements
- Ability to see and carve paths through ambiguity. Many of the things we work on are new, underspecified, and sometimes a bit weird. The team has a remote, async-heavy structure where people are expected to drive their own work. You should feel comfortable being the person who has to “go figure something out” and reporting back when you think you’ve reached the next critical step.
- Cross-boundary collaboration. Libp2p’s contributors and users represent a diverse tapestry of people, projects, goals, and organizations. We seek someone who works effectively across boundaries, building relationships and aligning shared interests towards project success.
- Technical literacy & curiosity. While we don’t expect you to be a professional-level software engineer, you should have some degree of technical literacy. When encountering a new technical concept, your instinct should be to seek a rough understanding of it rather than treating it as a "black box."
- Ambitious goals & humble practicality. The Libp2p Core Cell makes a significant impact by focusing on high-leverage tasks. This often means handling all the details, both big and small. You'll be expected to contribute to setting the Big Vision™️ while also rolling up your sleeves to tackle the grunt work when needed.
- Knowledge of and experience with libp2p and related web3 projects. Precedence will be given to community members within the broader libp2p ecosystem with a strong knowledge of libp2p strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and other community participants.
