As a Data Center Deployment Engineer, you’ll ensure that our 100+ edge data centers are deployed, upgraded, and prepared to meet the growing demands of our expanding service, enabling seamless video streaming, cloud gaming, and live experiences. You’ll collaborate with network architects, engineers, provisioners, capacity planners, logisticians, and others, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

In this role, you’ll manage multiple concurrent deployments while driving process improvements to ensure capacity is available ahead of demand. You’ll plan, document, and oversee complex data center builds, deployments, and upgrades. Managing global 'remote hands' vendors, you will provide detailed instructions and proactively address challenges. A key part of your role will be ensuring consistency across the team, and aligning practices to maintain high standards. You'll also enhance efficiency by sharing lessons learned and identifying opportunities for automation and simplification.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Project manage the design, planning, deployment, and refreshing of network and content serving infrastructure at new and existing Open Connect data center points of presence.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors to orchestrate deployments, deliver capacity, and develop project scopes while ensuring availability and performance.

  • Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation, including rack elevations, power consumption, cabling, run books, and handover documents, capturing all details for planned, installed, and as-built stages of deployments.

  • Create a bill of materials for each project, ensuring all necessary items, including structured cabling, optics, and network gear, are available on-site before rack and stack. Order non-stock items as needed and recommend materials for regular stocking to support efficient future deployments.

  • Manage remote hands vendors, providing clear scopes of work and ensuring adherence to SLAs, performance standards, and seamless execution, onboarding new vendors when necessary.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and architecture teams to develop long-term solutions that enhance network infrastructure and support future growth.

  • Identify and drive improvements in our internally developed management tools and automation processes.

  • Lead complex network upgrades and migrations, ensuring coordination and clear communication throughout.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve networking, power, cooling, and fiber issues in data centers.

  • Remotely configure data center hardware (servers, network appliances, etc.) for operations, including firmware updates, IP addressing, and other settings.

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to deployment team members and stakeholders.

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Open Connect Appliance functionality and its integration with network roadmaps.

What’s Required

  • Proven project management experience with a creative, problem-solving approach.

  • Ability to improve processes and workflows, foster collaboration, and encourage team performance through effective communication and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Flexibility to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities and requirements in a fast-paced, cross-time-zone environment.

  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and excellent problem-solving abilities.

  • Expertise in networking concepts and protocols, including routing, switching, DWDM, and fiber optics.

  • Layer 1 knowledge, including patch panels, fiber optic connectors, optic types, and form factors (e.g., LC, SC, MTP, CFP2, QSFP, SFP+).

  • Deep understanding of power standards, including kW power/heat load, voltage, amperage, and applications of single-phase, three-phase, and DC systems.

  • 5+ years of experience in Edge Networks and Data Centers as a Deployment Engineer or similar role.

  • Experience with server and network hardware configuration, including remote troubleshooting and hands-on installation.

  • Contribute to the team's success by offering mentorship and technical support to peers and stakeholders, while actively seeking guidance and learning opportunities to deepen expertise and strengthen team dynamics.

  • Proven ability to manage and work with remote vendors globally.

  • Willingness to travel for quarterly off-sites/on-sites, team syncs, and occasional project site visits, including overnight stays.

How to Stand Out

  • Expertise in system administration, scripting, automation, and optimizing OS/Network performance.

  • Experience designing and prototyping structured cabling.

  • Experience developing remote hands vendor scorecards and metrics.

  • Extensive experience deploying DWDM platforms and a solid working knowledge of high-power optics and attenuation.

  • Experience in web-scale, cloud networking, and hybrid environments.

  • Budget management skills and experience with financial planning for cost-effective deployments.

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $100,000 - $720,000.

Netflix provides comprehensive benefits including Health Plans, Mental Health support, a 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer match, Stock Option Program, Disability Programs, Health Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts, Family-forming benefits, and Life and Serious Injury Benefits. We also offer paid leave of absence programs. Full-time hourly employees accrue 35 days annually for paid time off to be used for vacation, holidays, and sick paid time off.
