Senior Product Manager - Card Fraud
Mercury
"It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it. If you think about that, you'll do things differently." - Warren Buffet
At Mercury, we strive to create a banking* experience that delights and inspires. But, without a foundation of trust, our higher level goals will erode away. To maintain that foundation, our Risk Product team is looking for a Senior Product Manager to lead the Card Fraud team. Managing card fraud is a balancing act, requiring sophisticated decisions be made in milliseconds. The correct decision delights and inspires. The wrong decision creates frustration and erodes trust.
As Senior Product Manager of the Card Fraud team, you’ll build products that make this balancing act magical for both our users and our internal risk teams. Products that run dynamic rules leveraging internal and external data, complex calculated features, machine learning models, and other signals to ensure the decisions we make in card authorization deliver magic, not frustration.
You’ll collaborate with data scientists, engineers, risk strategists, and consumer teams. You'll drive strategy and execution, building the foundation for a powerful, scalable program that supports Mercury's ambitious goals. You'll be accountable for understanding customer needs, developing strategy, prioritizing the roadmap, and keeping the team focused on delivering measurable impact in reducing fraud losses while maintaining an excellent customer experience.
You will keep the team outcome-oriented — using qualitative and quantitative metrics to guide decision-making. Further, you will ensure the entire team feels a sense of ownership over product direction and results.
*Mercury is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Choice Financial Group, Column N.A., and Evolve Bank & Trust, Members FDIC.
As part of the journey, we would expect you to:
- Lead the development and optimization of our card fraud decision platform, enabling rule creation, testing, and deployment
- Create best-in-class user experiences for customers impacted by card risk decisions, in addition to up-leveling our support tooling capabilities and procedures
- Partner closely with data science and analytics teams, driving labeling initiatives to support machine learning development
- Balance fraud prevention effectiveness with customer experience in transaction decisioning
- Develop and monitor key metrics around fraud losses, customer experience, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate with broader Risk teams to leverage and advance risk infrastructure
Some things that might make you successful in a role like this:
- 6+ years of product management experience, with 3+ years experience within card payments, card processing, transaction risk management or other risk decisioning systems
- Strong data analysis background, preferably with experience as a Data Analyst, in addition to working with machine learning and data science teams
- Understanding of the card payment ecosystem, including card network (VISA, MasterCard) operating practices/regulations
- Experience with customer communication systems (SMS, mobile notifications) is a plus
- Proven ability to excel in ambiguous environments, and make informed trade-offs weighing risk management with customer experience
- Ability to translate a deep technical understanding of our product and partner requirements into informed prioritization decisions
- Experience working in regulated environments
- Be able to take complex problems and distill them into first principles, always keeping the end-user in mind
