We’re looking for a designer who is passionate about creating intuitive, user-centered designs that help developers be more productive and successful.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead design efforts on significant project components, from inception to delivery, with the support of the Lead Product Designer.
  • Create concepts, wireframes, user flows, high fidelity designs and prototypes, and documentation articulating your design decisions that shape project outcomes
  • Design and lead collaborative working sessions with design, research, writers, engineers, and product leadership to align on strategic and tactical decisions for our team
  • Design and lead customer research efforts, including conducting interviews, designing surveys, and analyzing data to help inform product and design next steps
  • Staying up to date with the latest in the AI/ML industry and evangelizing and incorporating what you learn into what you’re working on
  • Participate in weekly design crits and collaborate with eng, research, tech writers, and product leadership during team ceremonies and working sessions
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to other designers and stakeholders, and contribute to design culture by contributing to and enhancing our design systems and processes.

What we’re looking for

  • 4-6 years product design experience building developer-centric tooling or platforms
  • T-shaped skills: You can write everything from UX microcopy to long-form design rationale, assist and even lead collaborative working sessions, plan and participate in user research, create complex prototypes, design visually stunning UI, and problem solve through user flows, journey maps, wireframes, screens, and text. You are ready and excited to become the AI UX expert for the company.
  • Efficient and effective: You are able to work independently, and you know how to work fast and deliver assets easily understood by our engineers and product partners. You thrive in high pressure delivery environments and know how to shape strategic outcomes.
  • Effective Communicator and Team Player: Excel in verbal and written communication, and work well within a team, combining opinionated perspectives with humility.
  • Accessibility Advocate and User-Centric: Prioritize accessible design and understand the needs of both technical and non-technical users.
  • Organized and Self-Motivated: Maintain highly developed organizational skills and take full responsibility for your work, knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Stakeholder Savvy and Adaptable: gain feedback from multiple stakeholders, keep them informed about impactful changes, and adjust strategies and deliverables as needed to balance business demands and user needs.
  • Generative AI experience: Designing conversational interfaces, data-heavy experiences around observability, and translating tabular data into visual experiences are a plus. You’ve used the big generative AI names in the industry and have opinions about how they can be made better.

What we need from you to apply

  • A link to your portfolio or previous work so we can see what you delivered and understand the thinking that went into your design decisions.
  • Your cover letter explaining why you would be great at DigitalOcean in response to this job description.
  • Your resume to give us a quick idea of what you’ve been up to and what you accomplished before arriving in our job application queue.
