The Platform Design and Research team at Coinbase plays a critical role in executing on our vision to create more economic freedom for the world, and is at the center of execution for products across the entirety of the company. We’re building the most secure, trusted, and easiest to use cryptocurrency products for the millions of people just getting started with crypto, as well as long-standing loyal customers with advanced knowledge of the cryptocurrency space. Our design systems enable and power the products that we build across the company and the UI Systems team is responsible for executing and delivering quality at scale via the Coinbase Design System (CDS).
As a Product Designer manager you’ll contribute to our mission, vision and strategy through a deep understanding of our customer and business needs. You will develop optimal user journeys to help our customers understand how to use cryptocurrency and complete their tasks with ease and confidence. You’ll work closely with Product and Engineering and XFN teams to help build simple, easy-to-use experiences that express the Coinbase brand and values.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead a team of Product Designers building and evolving our design system, CDS
- Proactively identify blockers, opportunities and improvements to the team's product area
- Be involved in all decision-making at all project phases for your product area (including planning, strategic, tactical, QA, analysis, decision, shipping and retro)
- Collaborate cross functionally to drive and shape the vision and strategy of CDS.
- Define and inform user experience of critical customer journeys
- Lead the strategy for evolving the next generation of CDS.
- Work XFN with engineering to establish a clear and accurate design system roadmap
What we look for in you:
- 2+ years of professional experience leading a team of designers
- Strong executional skills, you have built design systems that are functionally performant and aesthetically beautiful
- Excellence in UX thinking, visual design, and written communication
- Systems thinking and experience designing at scale
- Experience working in a collaborative environment with other designers, engineers, user researchers, and product teams
- Fluency in Figma and prototyping tools
- Strong mentorship skills
- You are low ego, collaborative, and open minded
- You love transforming complexity into simplicity, and creating order from uncertainty
Nice to haves:
- Previous design experience in FinTech
- Familiarity with crypto
- Engineering experience with React and Typescript.js
