Technical Analyst

The following position is open in Loretto Kentucky, United States. This position will be based at the Maker’s Mark distillery which is approximately 20 miles south of Bardstown, KY

Role Responsibilities

  • Conduct QC test and validation to ensure compliance to company standards and TTB regulations.
  • Perform instrumental analysis by GC-FID, GC-MS, HPLC and other technical equipment.
  • Record, analyze, and evaluate data using statistical analysis for process, product and raw material
  • Maintain recipes for formulas to generate batching instructions
  • Oversee taste panel to support and monitor product quality
  • Maintain and order supplies for laboratory and production
  • Assist with internal audit, GMP inspections and various product inspections
  • Assist with special projects, objectives and other duties as required
  • Support and troubleshoot Quality issues relating to production and raw materials
  • Ensures Quality Assurance procedures for the Quality Control laboratory areas are maintained, followed and documented.
  • Promote, supports and adhere to the job requirements for the department with regards to Quality, Food Safety, Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations and fully support the company IMS objectives and initiatives
  • Other duties as indicated

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Biology or a related field or equivalent experience
  • This position requires a minimum of three years experience in analytical lab or quality control environment.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory techniques and practices
  • GC/Mass Spectrometer experience, FT-NIR and HPLC experience
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, Lotus Notes, Computer run lab equipment
  • Must be willing and able to taste alcoholic beverages
  • Team player and previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Excellent problem solving skills

Non-Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience in bottling or food processing operation
  • ISO 9000/14001/22000, or related quality management systems experience

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
    • Heavy lifting and carrying of 45+ lbs
    • Sit, used hands and fingers
    • Near and far vision correctable
    • Talking and Hearing (aid is permitted)
    • Recognize basic color, shades of color and depth perception
    • Operate a motor vehicle

  • Work Environment: The employee will encounter the following environmental factors while performing the job:
    • Inside and outside activity
    • Intermittent, excessive noise
    • Exposed to abrasive chemicals, solvents (degreasing agents), grease, oil, and electrical energy
    • Slippery or uneven walking surfaces
    • Must be aware of moving objects, machinery, and vehicles
    • Required to work alone at times
