The main object and function of this position is to proactively manage the area wide facilities’ maintenance department and supervise all activities related to production equipment maintenance and projects in a manner which is safe and efficient, in compliance with regulatory requirements, internal customer requirements, operating budgets and management requests, all while promoting ALC’s quality and safety objectives.

1. Manages maintenance team and ensures development: Ensures direct supervision of Maintenance Supervisors, where applicable, at each facility as well as the unionized and non-unionized maintenance employees. Manages labor relations in accordance with the collective agreement where applicable. Proceeds with employee performance evaluations and ensures that the Maintenance Supervisors perform those of the maintenance staff reporting to them. Evaluates training needs and makes sure that employees receive adequate training.

2. Manage maintenance activities: Establishes mid and long term maintenance strategies in response to maintenance priorities and equipment availability. Ensures that maintenance activities align with the LI Maintenance Policy and work practices as defined by ALC’s National Maintenance Manager. Develops and reforecasts the plant maintenance budgets which integrate recommendations for optimal allocation of resources (staff, budget, material, etc.). Plans, organizes and implements maintenance projects while considering costs and delays including Major Turn-Arounds (TARs). Oversees the purchases of required material for maintenance including the spare part storeroom/warehouse and the inventory management. Manage the critical spare holding list and inventory. Ensures that all requisitions for purchases of equipment or services have the appropriate specifications. Fulfills role of CMMS Super User to support the deployment and use of the CMMS tool at the sites.

Ensure the accurate and timely capture of maintenance data in the ERP and CMMS systems. Develop and enforce work order management protocols, ensuring proper job planning, execution, and close-out. Drive cost-effective maintenance strategies through efficient use of ERP/CMMS analytics. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to system utilization and maintenance efficiency. Facilitate weekly maintenance meetings to review status of PMs, corrective work, upcoming schedule and resources planning. Conduct periodic reviews to identify and resolve ERP/CMMS data integrity issues. Scoping and job planning for all service requests with correct execution coding assigned. Loading purchase requests against correct work orders in the CMMS system. Coordinate contractors and other service providers executing work - includes proper site training.

3. Ensures activity follow-up: Ensures respect of allocated maintenance budget. Manages and controls maintenance expenses based on the operating budget. Maintains site maintenance KPIs in line with those set by Industrial Department (National Maintenance Manager and Industrial Director). Provides reports regarding equipment repair costs, preventive maintenance program, maintenance costs, etc.

4. Ensures preventive maintenance: With guidance from National Maintenance Manager, develops and implements a preventive maintenance system. Prepares the preventive maintenance schedules. Analyzes this system and proposes appropriate adjustments when required, in consultation with Reliability Engineer.

5. Process improvement: Works with his/her team as well as with multifunctional teams to continuously improve the work process. Continuously analyses the functioning of the activity, identifies causes of dysfunction and proposes corrective measures accordingly. Proposes modifications to equipment and procedures to improve efficiency and safety of equipment. Is trained and performs Vulnerability Studies as well as RCAs as required.

6. Quality / Safety: Improves health and safety in the workplace. Actively promotes ALC safety, environmental and quality objectives. Knows and respects all procedures as indicated in ALC’s ALMS. Makes sure the appropriate corrective and preventive measures are in place in order to answer customer complaints.

Develop and implement structured quality management frameworks, including, but not limited to:

  • Flange management procedures.

  • Functional checks for critical equipment.

  • Calibration protocols for instruments.

  • Instrumentation trip and alarm verification processes.

Ensure compliance with industry best practices and regulatory standards.

Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify adherence to quality standards.

Facilitate on the job training to enhance technical competency in quality management practices.

Ensure job completion prior to closing work permits and work orders.

Ensure compliance with industry best practices regarding Yard work - housekeeping, snow removal, etc.

Are you a MATCH?

Diploma : Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or mechanical technologist diploma

Training : process flows, product safety and handling, equipment, health and safety, hazardous materials

Knowledge : experience with large compressors, turbo-expanders and refrigeration equipment, computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), MS Office, electrical and welding procedures

7 to 10 years experience in supervising a maintenance team
